Sylvamo team members will need to be actively engaged in their environmental responsibilities and support our sustainability objectives across all our mills and forestry operations globally. The Global Environmental Specialist will report directly to the Global Environment Director, and will provide the necessary support, coordination and technical expertise across all environmental areas of every global location. This position will have accountability for establishing resilient and sustainable strategies for continuously improving our environmental performance; nourishing a culture in which environmental protection is an overriding value in all activities and assures compliance with regulatory requirements.
 
Key Responsibilities 

  • Supporting Sylvamo’s global environmental strategy, policies, procedures and deployment to ensure compliance with national/local regulations and Sylvamo policies in a way that protects our environment and employee safety, across all mills, forestry operations and non-manufacturing locations globally.
  • Coordinating our initiatives on Climate Change (predominantly Scope I and II greenhouse gas reduction), Water reduction, Waste reduction, Air emission & Wastewater Treatment together with our Mills and other locations, in support of our Vision 2030 goals.
  • Supporting the development of how we define our pathway to net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Supporting our environmental audit programs including corrective action plan tracking (both internal and external).
  • Developing and implementing effective environmental training programs as necessary.
  • Providing functional expertise and strategic direction to achieve our environmental and sustainability aspirations while positively impacting profitability and operational excellence.
  • Facilitating sharing of Best Practices between all of Sylvamo’s global operations.
  • Supporting established teams to more effectively accomplish their mission (Environmental committees, Mill Leadership Team, ad-hoc teams, etc.).
  • Providing functional support for trade association, legislative and regulatory advocacy initiatives.
  • Supporting environmental remediation as necessary and any due diligence that may arise.
  • Facilitating and validating the data collection of our ESG/Sustainability requirements across our global locations.
  • Traveling to sites globally to provide support as necessary.

What you will need

  • A bachelor’s degree in environment or technical discipline with significant related experience.
  • Must be able to read and speak English fluently
  • 5+ years Environmental/Energy Management experience in a highly regulated manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Experience in the pulp and paper industry is preferred, but not essential.
  • A willingness to learn and be adaptable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) in English. Must be an effective listener.
  • Clear ability to manage change and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Established skill to execute effectively and deliver results.
  • Working knowledge of ISO14001/ISO50001 is beneficial.

Role can be located in Memphis, Tennessee, or at one of our global manufacturing locations (US, Brazil, France and Sweden) or potentially home based.
