JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Transit Planner performs basic professional level work in support of operational and performance transit planning. Duties include the collection / maintenance of ridership and schedule databases, assisting with the creation of databases for customer-facing bus stop and real time schedule information, preparing maps / related graphics, analyzing ridership, schedule, and operations data, assisting with the creation and implementation of service change plans, and responding to communications from the public. This position supports the Mission / Vision / Values of MCTS and works to advance Milwaukee County’s vision to advance racial equity.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists in the collection / maintenance of ridership and schedule databases.
  2. Assists with the creation of databases for customer-facing bus stop and real time schedule information.
  3. Prepares maps / related graphics of transit routes for the public.
  4. Analyzes ridership / service data in the preparation of transit plans and assists with the implementation of plans.
  5. Responds to requests from customers, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
  6. Prepares reports that confirm compliance with Federal Transit Administration programs including the Title VI Program Update plan.
  7. Presents information on transit plans at public meetings.
  8. Performs other duties as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Transportation Planning, or related field required. Master’s Degree in a related field is desirable.
  2. One (1) year of related work experience required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of MCTS route system and Milwaukee-area street network.
  2. Knowledge of public transit and urban planning trends and best practices.
  3. Skilled in software usage including spreadsheet, word processing, presentation and related software.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and give presentations to multiple stakeholders
  5. Ability to work independently and be a member of a team.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  1. Work is frequently conducted office or similar indoor environment relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
  2. Physical requirements are those described as sedentary work exerting 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently.
